01 / The Challenge
One Consistent Standard. Across Every Facility.
The organization needed a scalable way to prepare and certify Powered Industrial Truck operators across facilities and equipment types. The challenge was to turn existing requirements into consistent instruction, practical operating behaviors, and clear standards for evaluation.
My Approach
I designed the learning and certification system from the ground up: curriculum, participant materials, active-learning activities, multimedia, hands-on facilitator guides, Train-the-Trainer development, and instructor evaluation rubrics.
The system connected classroom learning to warehouse-floor practice and gave local trainers a repeatable way to deliver the program.
Learning Designed Around the Work
Curriculum & Active Learning
I built a curriculum spanning powered pallet jacks, forklifts, Tygards, scissor lifts, and boom lifts. Guided notes, equipment identification, matching activities, concept maps, puzzles, and scenarios required learners to work with the material.
From Classroom to Warehouse Floor
Separate forklift and pallet-jack facilitator guides connected demonstrations with guided practice and independent performance. The I Do / We Do / You Do approach gave trainers a consistent progression for developing operator skills.
Multimedia Reinforcement
Purpose-built video examples supported technical instruction, questioning, learner engagement, and trainer presence.
Equipping the People Who Teach
Train-the-Trainer
I developed the trainer preparation process, facilitator tools, and classroom and floor-module rubrics to support consistent delivery across locations. More than 100 trainers have been certified.
Clear, Equitable Evaluation
The rubrics made teaching behaviors observable: subject knowledge, facilitation, questioning, feedback, engagement, and practical instruction. A shared proficiency scale helped trainers evaluate candidates consistently.
